I Love My Taupe Eyeshadows!!!

I recently was able to track down Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe after searching for it at a number of drugstores =) This has inspired me to make a post about Taupe eyeshadows! I love taupe eyeshadow, it's my favorite shade and it really works on almost any skin type and eye color. I realized I accumulated a number of taupe eyeshadows without even knowing, so I've decided to swatch them for you all and give a quick take on each. So here it goes....

From top to bottom (first pic with flash, second without): 1. Loreal HIP Paint in 817 Nervy, 2. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr Eyeshadow in 35 Tough as Taupe, 3. Buxom Stay There Eyeshadow in Pug, 4. Clinique Single Shade from Teddy Bear Quad, 5. Wet N' Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow in Nutty, 6. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sidecar, 7. Mac Eyeshadow in Copperplate, 8. Stila Eyeshadow in Diamond 'lil, 9. Shade from Nyx 5 Color Shadow in Eyeshadow in I Dream of Nevis

Each shade is a very different taupe, so I'll try describe each one the best I can:

1. Loreal HIP Paint in Nervy- I love the consistency of Loreal HIP paints, they are extremely pigmented and blendable. This is a cream based eyeshadow but it dries to almost a powder like consistency. A little definitely goes a long way! This shade is probably the warmest taupe of the bunch and makes a great neutral smoky eye. I like to use it on the outer third with my the Loreal HIP paint in Lofty on the inner two thirds. A quick, neutral smoky that requires no brushes! I got them all on ebay for around $5-6 each and I think this is a steal for the amount of product and quality of it.

2. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 hr Eyeshadow in Tough as Taupe- this color is on the gray side and actually goes on very matte and is a cream based eyeshadow. It's slightly hard to blend so be sure to work quickly. Definitely works much better using your fingers. I like to use it as an all over the lid color, I concentrate it at the lashline/lower lid and blend it upwards. Another quick and easy look. It's not too pigmented but seems to be buildable and is very work appropriate. I got it from my local drugstore not on sale for around $7.50. Everywhere that had them on sale didn't have this taupe shade =( worth the $? I don't really think so, but if you need a neutral work look or can snag it on sale, this may be worth it for you.

3. Buxom Stay There Eyeshadow in Pug- this one is cool, it's like a cream shadow with a spongey feeling/whipped texture. Very sparkly and pretty with buildable color. It's slightly more of a pewter shade and I absolutely love this eyeshadow. Easy to blend and works great as a base or on it's own. The downside? I believe it costs $18, got it in the Flirt Alert set with the insider liner in onyx for $19 so it was a good deal for me. Would I recommend the splurge? It's not a must have and isn't my favorite of the set, so probably not. Unless you're a big fan of cream eyeshadows.

4. Clinique Single Shade fromn the Teddy Bear Quad- this color is okay, nice shade but weak pigmentation. It's the perfect taupe shade but the pigmentation is so weak that it's really not worth purchasing especially because it's only one shade in a quad. Unless you want the quad because you love the other colors I wouldn't recommend the splurge.

5. Wet 'N Wild Color Icon in Nutty- a warmer taupe, shimmery, decent pigmentation. The only issue I had with it was the amount of fallout. It's very soft and even ended up breaking (I didn't drop it or anything so I have no idea how this happened). It only cost $1.99 so I'd say its definitely worth the price tag.

6. Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Sidecar- the most glittery taupe shade. It's on the lighter side and makes  a great wash of color on the lids. I like to use this when I want more sparkle to my smoky eye. It's a little much for the day for me and I noticed glitter fall out on my cheeks after I use it (I even tap the brush to get as much excess off as possible and still can't avoid it). I would love this color more if it wasn't so glittery. I don't think they sell this one as a single shade, but am not too sure. I got mines in my Naked 1 Palette. But I think the naked palette is worth the splurge =) just because I love it and use it so much!

7. Mac Eyeshadow in Copperplate- this is a matte shade that's more on the gray side. It's easily blendable, very useful and I like it a lot. It's one of my four mac eyeshadows that I consider a NEED for me. I think I'm just a little bias though because I'm so used to using it as it was one of my first eyeshadow singles I ever purchased. Plus it's only $14, the quality is good and it lasts forever. Since it's matte you can also use it to tone down some shades that are too sparkly.

8. Stila Eyeshadow in Diamond 'Lil- this shade is the perfect taupe and is my favorite of all! It has a smooth, easily blendable texture and is super pigmented. It's sparkly but not overly sparkly. If you're going to splurge, I would splurge on this one out of the bunch! It costs $18 but I got mines for $8 since birchbox was offering free shipping on stila eyeshadows this month and I had 100 points for a late box that I redeemed.

9. Nyx Taupe shade from 5 Color Eyeshadow Palette in I Dream of Nevis- this shade is a nice taupe but for some reason I find myself hardly reaching for it. It's not too warm and not too gray and has the perfect amount of shimmer. Now that I think about it, I have no idea why I never reach for this shade! It was pretty cheap and has a good amount of pigmentation. The palette cost me about $8 and I purchased it from Cherryculture.com. I use the light beige/cream color from the palette the most because it makes the perfect highlight color. That alone makes the palette worth it to me along with the dark brown matte that can be used as a liner.

The must-haves out of the bunch (I love them all but if I HAD to pick only three):
1. The Splurge: Stila in Diamond 'Lil
2. The Cream: Loreal HIP paint in Nervy
3. The Affordable One: Nyx I Dream of Nevis Palette Taupe (extra bonus is the other shades in there too!)

Hope this helped to break it down as there are a lot of taupe eyeshadows out there to sift your way through!
